Flashcards Lost in Premade Categories

I have been using pleco for about 2 years, over that time I have been bookmarking words as I go along. I could never find the cast majority of my bookmarks but I kept saving them as I went along, in the hopes that I would figure it out one day.

I don't know if this is the problem but I have two categories in my flashcards "HSK 2012-2018" and "Uncategorized", I fear that all of my saved cards have been automatically filtered/absorbed into the existing categories. But I don't want the HSK 2012-2018 categories on there anyway, that must have been added by mistake.

The uncategorised section only has 147 cards.

My question is how can I find all the card I manually saved, can I filter them out from existing categories without loosing them?

If i can't find the cards I manually bookmarked over the last two years I would be devastated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also cannot add any cards to pleco due to "Model not configured" despite going through each model option and enabling permissions..

It sounds like you've turned on AnkiDroid integration, which would make the regular Pleco flashcard system vanish altogether (the data is still there but it's hidden) - you have to not just enable permissions for each model but also go in and configure it with which fields in Pleco should translate to which fields in Anki.

As far as the larger problem: when you've added cards to flashcards in the past, has the + button turned into a [+] consistently, or has it sometimes already been a [+] and put up a dialog box asking if you want to create a new card instead? In general, if you tap on the + and the icon changes it means that the card was either newly created or newly added to a category, but if with some of these manually saved cards it put up that dialog and you simply dismissed the dialog and left it at that, unfortunately in those cases nothing new would have been created. (you might be able to recover at least some of your lost lookups by scrolling through the History screen, though)

Thanks for your reply Mike

Perhaps I didn't make the issue very clear

I have cards that I look up and add to my collection by tapping +

I also seem to have a card collection that I have imported

My problem is that I can't find my manually added cards separate to the imported deck, other than a small portion in "uncatagorised"

Its just my assumption, but what I think has happened it because some manually added cards has duplicates in the imported collection, the manually added cards have been automatically integrated with those imported decks. It also seems that cards I have added since the import have been sent to that deck. (Perhaps not, but I have no idea where the hundreds of cards that I have bookmarked have gone)

The problem is that I may have, say 2000 cards that I manually added but the imported collection has 10,000. So now I cannot practically use the deck at all, because the cards I want are buried underneath thousands of cards I already know/don't want to know.

You might be able to tease those out if you do a search in Organize Cards for "all cards" and sort by created date; the cards that existed before the import ought to show up earlier in that list. You could potentially also do an actual search for cards created before the date of the import. (in either case you would then add the cards from the search results to a newly created category just for all of your manually created cards)

Thanks a lot Mike. I have recovered a few cards, but a lot are just going to have to be remade I guess.

The other question I have is that I would like to integrate pleco bookmarks Anki. But when changing the flashcard system to Anki, I loose all my previous "Pleco built-in" flashcards and can't get them to Anki (very well).

While I can export the old "pleco built-in" decks and import them to Anki, it looses all the useful formatting compared to when a card added directly to Anki, its just entered as plain text, because pleco exports as a .txt file.

Do you have any suggestions?

I'm afraid it's not a scenario we've spent much time thinking about - most of the time people are either already Anki users or already Pleco flashcard users. There are Anki extensions that will fill in Chinese-English dictionary definitions for cards, so you might be able to export your Pleco word list to a text file and then fill in definitions from one of those.
