Epubs on iPad save old version of file even after deletion

I am trying to read .epubs which are regularly updated. If I have already opened a file with name "Book.epub" in the Pleco app, how do I replace this file with an updated version of the file "Book.epub"?

I have tried deleting the .epub file and the .epub.plecobookmark file from the File Manager. First I tap the "i" on the "Book.epub" file, then click "Clear All" under "Bookmarks and Settings". Then I go to the File Manager again and manually delete the old "Book.epub" file. After doing this and restarting the Pleco app, I try to re-open the new updated "Book.epub". However the reader will show the first version of whichever file was named "Book.epub".

This happens whether the file was in the Imported Documents folder or the Inbox folder in the File Manager. However, if I try to open "Book.epub" via both the app (Reader > Open Document) and the iPad Files app (Share > Pleco), there will be two versions of "Book.epub", one stored in the Inbox and one stored in the Imported Documents folder.

I don't want old versions of every file I've ever opened in the Reader on my iPad. Is there any way to permanently delete these?

I am on iPadOS 18.3.2

That's odd - we don't really cache those files anywhere, the version we open is whatever version is stored in Pleco's file storage area on your iPad, there isn't some special secret directory where we keep extra copies of them.

Are you sure that the version you're sharing with Pleco is actually the updated one? If you're opening it from iCloud Drive then it could be out-of-sync.

I figured it out! The problem was that for some reason, when I went to Reader > Open Document, it took me to a folder in the "Recently Deleted" folder which I mistook for the actual folder my book was stored in, as they had identical names. Not sure how that happened since you can't navigate directly to the "Recently Deleted" folder from the menu that pops up when you go to Reader > Open Document > External Files. My guess is that the deleted folder in "Recently Deleted" showed up under "Recently Used" folders in the menu to open a new document.

Sorry for the trouble!
