Force specific dictionary entry for flashcards

Hey,
I got the Tatoeba sentences flashcards by Shun and Leguan in a user dictionary. Unfortunately the sentences won't show up in the flashcards no matter what I do. I can change them manually during the test. I searched in this forum and realized that there is a way to batch remap the flashcards to a dictionary which I did. Nonetheless the flashcards always start with another dictionary entry when I do a new test. I'm a bit frustrated as I have been trying to change this for several hours already. Is there another way to force a specific dictionary entry during the flashcard test?

Hi SaeKasa,

we are/I am happy to hear you're using these sentences as flashcards. I know of only one surefire way of linking user dictionary entries to flashcards, and that is to add them to your user dictionary at the time of import. (If you have more than one active user dictionary when importing, I think it will pick the first one that's listed under Manage Dictionaries.) You can set the flashcard import options to the following (area circled, it should look more or less the same under Android):

Since you've already imported the sentences into your user dictionary, the cleanest way may be to create a new user dictionary for them, calling it "Tatoeba" or similar, to avoid duplicates. Alternatively, since a user dictionary is usually meant to be used in the Dictionary part of the app, and you almost never search for full sentences there, you could think about simply adding the sentences to your flashcards database directly, just like you import any normal vocab flashcards. That's how I did it. Or is there any particular reason you would prefer to have the sentences in a user dictionary?

Cheers,

Shun

Hi Shun, thank you for your reply and for creating those flashcards! You are right, I should have just added them as normal flashcards. I did this just now and it works fine. Strangely I did the same thing a few hours ago and it didn't work so I decided to try putting them in a user dictionary. I also added a new test profile just now maybe that did the trick. Thank you! It's finally working :).
