Not Correctly Displaying Which Categories Cards are Saved to

For some reason when I look at the information of specific cards, the categories are not showing.

See below card is shown in category "30":

I tapped 'change dictionary / entry' > add > then 'card info' ...

Now in this situation it is shown as ONLY in my HSK card collection:

I know this card is in all aforementioned collections so why isnt the category tree showing this? This has happened with a bunch and I expect a few dozen or so more (at least) is the case. I haven't been on a mad spree converting my cards to custom ones, so I'm quite confused.

What's going on here please? I would really like to understand how to use categories properly and avoid duplicates.

Many thanks

(And big respect to all the developers involved in this incredible app - I love it - thank you!)

Any chance you have a duplicate card here? (you can do a search for duplicates in Organize Cards)

Yes I do and thats precisely the problem. Because If I have a duplicate, 2 of the same card, in multiple categories, it should show which categories it's in right? But it doesn't. Sometimes it shows one category and sometimes it shows the other. I wonder if I'm using it wrong somehow.

The card in my post should have been in those 2 HSK folders and folder '30'. But these are not shown simultaniously when I look at the info.

Sorry, each card only shows the categories it’s in. (This is so that you could for example have two separate cards with different senses of the same word in the same category)

A card can belong to multiple categories, though, so if you simply add your HSK card to your 30 category that will give you everything in one place.

Ok so I have other cards which are listed as being in multiple categories in their card info.

Just so am I understanding correctly here... Are you saying that whilst they are technically the same in terms of info and definition, Pleco treats the card in this post as 2 different cards because they were created at different times?

Normally, when you try to create a duplicate of an existing card, the system flags that and offers to add the existing card to a new category instead. I'm not sure why that didn't happen here - maybe you inadvertently clicked on the button to create a new card instead in one of those prompts - but that's the intent.

There are all sorts of reasons why somebody might want to keep two copies of the same card - for example, if you wanted to track its statistics separately in two different categories - so we do allow people to create duplicates if they want to, but the system is designed to steer you away from that by default.

Anyway, as I said, if you simply add your HSK card to your 30 category and remove the redundant card in your 30 category, that should fix this.
