Still image OCR blackout

I've not used still image OCR much before, but was just trying it out and found it's not working on my phone. If I open a photo (jpeg) of text (there's nothing wrong with the photo), all I get is a solid black image. However, the OCR does seem to be able to identify text from that black image though I can't tell how accurately. Live OCR is working without any problems. Screen image of still OCR is attached. Has anyone encountered this problem before?

Could you email or PM me the JPEG and also let me know what model of device you're using and what version of Android it's running? (the font in the clock at the top of the screen suggests something other than stock)
