PlecoReader displays Pinyin-words with "blanks"

In displaying Pinyin PlecoReader puts a blank before and after the letter with the diacritical marks. Why?

That looks like an issue with your custom Chinese font - for whatever reason its tone-marked letters are unusually wide; pick a different font and it should work better.
