Phrases and short sentences for Cards?

I'm pretty new at Pleco and can't find an answer to this question:
I am trying to collect a number of calligraphy phrases, to be stored in the card database. I try entering a phrase, such as, xin de kai shi, "New Beginnings", a classic phrase.
But I can't get Pleco to:
1) search for and perhaps recognize the whole phrase, and
2) put the whole phrase (or sentence?) into the card database.

Am I missing a procedural sequence that would give this capability to me?

Are you entering it in Pinyin or characters? We don't support breaking down long phrases for Pinyin (too many possibilities) but we do support it if you enter characters. You can use the built-in iOS Pinyin input keyboard if you want to enter characters using Pinyin.

If you do enter it in characters then it should break it down for you automatically - if you want to create a flashcard out of the whole thing, go into Settings / Search Interface and set "unknown search handling" to "card" and you'll then see an option at the top of the search results to let you make a flashcard from it. (it'll fill in the characters and Pinyin automatically and let you enter the correct definition yourself)
