OCR!

These are quite ingenious little ideas, but it seems like much time, effort, and money. Just buy an unlocked iPhone if you don't want AT&T! :p

(I do respect and salute clever guys like you... I could never cone up with these kind of ideas)

And still no OCR to speak of!

Still getting the above error message when I try to purchase ... I just tried the demo button instead and that works.

IMPORTANT: double-check the price in the in-app purchase confirmation screen before purchasing; we realized we had the wrong prices in there ($20/$15 instead of $15/$12) and fixed them this morning, but that price change seems to be taking a little while to take effect, so if you see the higher prices listed and don't feel like overpaying, wait a few minutes and reload the catalog / try purchasing again. (the higher prices are what we're going to charge once the still-image mode stops being "experimental," but until then we're using the lower ones [and even if you buy at those prices you'll still get that still image upgrade for free once it's ready]).

"This item is currently being modified. Please try again later." ?

Are you getting that on the update download or the OCR purchase?

With the download, I'd do what they say and wait a bit; with the purchase, it's probably due to that price change above so again I'd suggest waiting a bit.

OCR purchase ... it must be due to the price change then! I'll try later. Thanks!

Yep, the OCR purchase says £9 but when I click on it to buy, the price in the popup box is £12.

iTunes gift cards on sale

iTunes gift cards are good for App Store purchases as well as music. Apparently Wal-Mart had $50 cards on sale last weekend for $35 and I missed it.

These coupons are for various US grocery stores owned by Ahold and/or Super Valu (and maybe others--even *I* don't recognise all the names) stores. $5 off a $30 multi-pack. Note that the print button is really hard to find, it's at the lower right of the stupid not-quite-a-pop-up window that seems to be popular among web designers these days.

dealmac.com will let you add an email alert when the product you want goes on sale. If I had done that before last weekend, Pleco would've cost $35. :-/

Hi Mike,

So glad I lost my old Treo in Hangzhou and was able to buy an IPhone in the Apple Store in Shanghai. Now I am back in Amsterdam and I can fully enjoy the new IPhone version of PlecoDict. In fact I like it so much that I bought a new license for the IPad I bought last week as well. I really do not mind to support a company that during the last decade or so has helped me with my Chinese to such a great extend.
I have also been looking forward for the OCR for some weeks now and after having tried it for a short while I already believe it is AWESOME!!!
After OCR, I do not know what is left to be desired. But I am sure you will come up with something new in the next years.

Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!

Wow. This almost makes me want to become a Borg.

Of course now Apple will go ahead and release the white iPhone I was waiting for for four months.

So far, I only have the demo version. I'm heading out to buy some iTunes gift cards momentarily.

I can't find any preferences for the OCR module (Perhaps this is due to the fact I haven't paid yet.) So I can't turn on still-image mode.

Oh, look, the instruction manual on iPhone is hidden in the "reader' tab. It should probably appear in lots of places, including at the top of the settings.

And, do you have a new icon?

Thanks for getting OCR up & running. Thought I had to wait until eom Nov. Then I clicked the Appl Update bottom. Worked well on tea box, w/ slight script Chinese. Didn't do so well on a soy sauce bottle, but it may be my shaky hands & the glare of lighting (I'm a photographer.)

Looking forward to translating some pics og signs I took in Chungshan (Zhongshan) earlier this year.

Again, Thanks Mike Love & team.
