iPhone data storage

When I check app storage in my iPhone it shows a size of 4.54GB for documents and data. The storage in my iPad is 1.8GB. Both are synced together through iCloud. A backup copy of the flash cards .txt file I keep in Dropbox shows the file size as 1MG; the flash card backup .pbq is 1.9MG ; the backup of my user dictionary is 8 KB. I can't work out why the storage in the iPhone and iPad is so large. I check the file folder in Pleco and removed all files I had including backup files with no noticeable difference. I suspect there is build up of old files in caches. Is there any way in Pleco to flush these out. Maybe there another cause for this build up. I thought about deleting the app and reinstalling but that seems a bit drastic.

Thanks , yes that was the solution. I had installed the large gigabyte Hong and Qiang text to speech enhanced options installed on the iPhone.
