Export Card with actual Reader Examples

I’ve saved up over 500 cards from reading a book with my book sentence context with plans to export into another learning environment. I didn’t realize, exports only give a link to the reader and that link is not useable outside of Pleco. Anyway to actually export keywords with their Reader context sentence? Or add this feature?

Not at the moment, unfortunately - the data is all there if you export your cards to JSON, so in theory you could write a script to go through the "cards" object / find those links / replace them with the text from the cards with those IDs, but it's not something we currently automate. Can certainly consider adding a feature for that, though.

I would absolutely kill for a way to export one’s sentence cards with the linked word, pronunciation and definition as a tab or comma separated file.

Or at least a dedicated way to do “sentence mining” style flashcard study inside Pleco. Chinese isn’t the only language I study though and it would make my life a little bit easier if I could keep my sentences all in one app haha.

I’ve tried to look through the forums as much as I can and have seen a few people make reference to sentence mining. I have to imagine it would be a relatively popular study style to accommodate if possible!

Thanks for considering.

Sorry, could you more specific about what this "sentence mining" study inside of Pleco would look like and how it differs from what we offer now? Are you basically looking for something with the sentence on the front of the card - without hiding (but maybe with boldfacing?) the target word - and then the word and its definition revealed on the back of the card? This is possible in the current beta with a ton of hacking, it'll be possible in the next update with a relatively easy to configure custom test type (now that we've made those easier to configure), and we've been thinking about making it a built-in thing you can select by default since it seems to be an increasingly popular study method.

As far as more elaborate exports: to be honest the whole export system is going to exist in a kind of in-between state for a little while because it's eventually going to be connected to the sync service which is our next project after getting 4.0 out, so I'd be reluctant to add much to that until whatever later 4.x update adds sync support, but something we can think about eventually. It would not be too hard to write something to reconstruct embedded sentences from a JSON export, though (but I'd wait on that for now because the JSON format is changing a bit even between now and 4.0 final).

Yes, what you described would be great. I don’t know enough about Chinese characters to know if bolding might distort the strokes in more complicated characters; maybe a font color change or just brackets? At any rate, I think making a dedicated test type would be really nice. At present I’m not aware of any satisfactory method to mine Chinese sentences on mobile so this would be a game changer for many of us.

As for the exports, it’s not too time consuming to get the data I need by hand. Thanks for considering!
