Disable input until selecting a word from the suggestion bar

Hello. Apologies in advance if this has been asked before.

Is there a setting to “delay” or prevent words that are being handwritten from being entered into the input bar until I click on a hanzi from the suggestion bar?

For reference, my usual use case is like this:
1) I find a word I don’t recognize
2) I open Pleco and start writing some radicals
3) I switch out from Pleco and back to the app where I found the word
4) I switch back to Pleco and continue writing the word but the radicals keep being entered into the input bar although I wasn’t done writing it yet

It’s a little annoying because I’d have to delete the unnecessarily entered radicals and fiddle around with my fat finger xD

This doesn’t happen in another dictionary app which I use like Shirabe Jisho or Midori

Not at the moment - to be honest I think you're the first person to ever flag this problem.

If you don't mind my asking, why are you handwriting a word from another app rather than simply copy-and-pasting it?

Thanks for replying.

Sometimes the words are on another device, in an image or in a link where long tapping opens up a context menu. And for a quick lookup, I prefer to write it out as that is the least finicky option.

Other than that, I think I remember words better after writing them out a few times

Understood. Another option in those cases is to take a screenshot and then highlight the character in the screenshot - iOS should automatically OCR it for you so you can copy and paste it.
