Chinese German Database HanDeDict

Hello,

Today I discovered that there is the free Chinese German "HanDeDict" database that is a "follow up" project to CEDICT.

The homepage of this project is http://chdw.de/
The database can be used online and it is possible to download the database.

Would it be possible for plecosoft to generate a pleco database out of this?

Best regards,
Sascha

We've gotten a few requests about that, actually - we'll probably release a version of it with Pleco 2.0, though in the meantime you could always try doing one yourself with our MakePlecoDict utility.

Hi,

yes, it was possible to create a Chinese-German pdb file.
I would post it here, but I assume that I cannot include a copyright information in the pdb file with makeplecodict. Therefore I am not sure if I am allowed to give it to other people.

Just for information to other users on how I did it:
You can take one of the HanDeDict Files, convert the character encoding for example with word (eg. UTF-8 to UTF-16). Then you have to apply some replace to get tabstops. Some errors occured during makeplecodict, but after the respective lines were deleted, the pdb database was ready.

Sascha

You could always put that info in the first entry (or first few entries), before the real dictionary starts - that would ensure that people see it.

Hi,

would it be possible to publish my simple version of the HanDeDict pdb somewhere here in this forum. I checked the copyright issue and it would be ok.

Regards,
Sascha

Yes, you should be able to post it in "Flashcard Exchange" (which we should probably rename to "Flashcard/Dict Exchange").

The maximum size there is 256 kB.
Unfortunately this is too small for dictionaries.
I would need between 6-10 MB.

Oh, right, sorry, forgot about that. I don't even think our server will allow PHP uploads that big... if you send me the file along with the e-mail from HanDeDict's authors I'm sure we could find somewhere to put it, we can't necessarily do this for every database update but an old version is better than no version at all.

Mike was so friendly to put the Chinese German Database HanDeDict, that I converted into the pdb format, on their pleco website. The url is http://www.pleco.com/handedict.zip.

This pdb includes simplified chinese, pinyin and german without accents (umlaute). In plecodict the icon of the database will be an question mark (?). Other versions may follow.

Much thanks to the collecters of the database http://chdw.de. You can find their copyright note as the first entry in the pdb.
