OK, hopefully you all will forgive a slightly off-topic post, but I'm curious about what best practices are for learning the characters?
I'm working through the New Practical Chinese reader. I'm on Chapter 7 - to give you an idea of my level. I use the Pleco flashcards all the time. Each chapter, I make a new list, and start with character recognition, then pronunciation, and finally, character recall from English definition. Its slow, and sometimes seems not the best way to do things. I'm curious what the 'Best Practices' are out there.
