question on importing from memo pad

Greetings:

I have some files that are in my memo pad. They are:

Hanzi
pin1yin1
English

in format, many coming from the Oxford dictionary and so also having punctuation and symbols such as ~. (The Hanzi were created with CJKOS[http://www.dyts.com/en/cjkos.html].) I want to import them, or really just the Hanzi part, to my PlecoDict flashcards. The problem is that when I try to use the import function in flashcards there are no files detected as being in memo pad format. There is most likely some obvious and simple answer to this but my limited understanding of palm and other computers has prevented me from figuring it out.

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Memo entries are only recognized when their first line includes the name of the flashcard list with the "// " delimiter; e.g.

// Flashcards
Hanzi<tab>Pinyin<tab>English

The tabs are required too; putting items on separate lines won't work, unfortunately.

Greeting Mike:

Even with this exact format for a memo it still recognizes no files:

//2004-5-17<space>
Hanzi<tab>pin1yin1<tab>English<space>
Hanzi<tab>pin1yin1<tab>English<space>

I'm having the same problem.

The first line of my memo entry is:

//<space>Sentences<space>

but the import screen still doesn't list it.

That's odd... try removing the trailing space and see if that improves matters. And are you sure that the import screen is in "Memo Pad" mode?

I did get my Pleco to list my new memo entry. Here is what I did.

I used Outlook Express (with IME) to write the entry, and saved it as unicode. Then I cut and pasted the text into my Tungsten E Palm Desktop as a new memo.

However, when I would open the entry after importing, all I would get is pinyin for the Chinese character line I had originally entered. Also, all the spaces in the pinyin line and the definition line were gone. No tone marks either.

Saving as a separate unicode text file, then pasting into a new memo via Palm Desktop wouldn't work. At least I couldn't get it to work. There seems to be some extra characters that show up when I open the text file on my desktop.

Maybe skipping the Palm Desktop altogether would be the way to go. I have no idea how to work with files on my Tungsten E though. Can't even find where they are listed.

Skipping Palm Desktop would make things a little more straightforward, yes - the best way to do that is to use an SD card reader/writer to manually copy the flashcard text file to your SD card. An SD card writer is really a must for any serious PDA user - they sell for under $10 on eBay and are well worth the money. (just search for "usb sd" or something similar)
