problems with internal memory installing on a Palm m505

Hi guys I have just downloaded the Complete edition but am unable to load it on my Palm m505 (8MB internal memory, 128MB Card)

I have placed all dictionaries on my expansion card and all required files on my handhelds internal memory according to the instructions. All required files on my handheld memory occupy around 3.5MB andI have 7.5mB of free space. However every time I hotsync it gets to the "Synchronising ABC dictionary" and returns an error message "handheld memory full."

I thought the Complete version only needed 3.5 MB on the Handhelds internal memory to run correctly, or do I need to put all dictionaries on the handheld's internal memory as well?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

The dictionaries don't need to go in internal memory, but in some cases Palm Desktop will try to copy them there and then copy them from internal memory to the SD card, so that's likely what's causing your problem.

If you have access to an external SD card reader/writer, the easiest way to fix this would be to put your Palm's SD card in that, then copy the ABC data file directly to the \Palm\Launcher directory on the card. Remove it from Palm Desktop's install screen and the rest of PlecoDict's data files should install normally on the next HotSync. If not, Card Export (http://www.softick.com/, strange that I'm plugging it twice on the same day) is a handy utility (with a free time-limited demo version) that will turn your Palm into an SD card reader and let you do the same thing. Install that to your Palm, run / activate it, then go to My Computer and your Palm should show up as one of your computer's drives; open up that drive and drag the ABC data file into the \Palm\Launcher folder.

Suggestion about SD Card for Palm505

Luckily my mom was able to dig up my old Palm m505 and is sending it to me in China. I know this model will work for PlecoDict but I am curious as to how large of an SD card I will need? I plan on buying either the linguist or professional model of Pleco 2.0 and what to make sure I buy a large enough card but not one that is so large I will not use the extra space. I will not be using the Palm for anything other than PlecoDict. Also, is there anything else I will be needing? BTW, any idea about when Pleco 2.0 will be finished? In the meantime I will just get the current version once I receive my Palm. Thanks for the help!

Actually I'm afraid the m505 won't work with 2.0; there's a chance we *may* be able to get the basic dictionary functionality working on it (albeit rather slowly), but there's no way audio will work (the m505's processor simply isn't fast enough to decompress an audio stream in a reasonable amount of time) and flashcards and user dictionary entries likely won't work either (or will work but with such dreadful performance as to be essentially useless).

So if you're buying an SD card to use with the current version and possibly with a very limited version of 2.0, a 256 MB card should be more than adequate. If you want to buy a larger card in case you upgrade to a newer Palm later on, a 1 GB card would probably be best.

by the way, I think the largest SD card an m505 can handle is 64 MB... (you can look up the specs yourself :) maybe that's the source of the problem?

I believe they can handle up to 2 GB, actually, though they do sometimes run into problems copying files over to an SD card by way of main memory...
