PocketPC highlight for reader, system copy/paste problems

I just did a quick check in the forums, and didn't see these issues, I was wondering if there was any fix. If there is, or if not all systems exhibit this, let me know. If no fix you can keep it in mind for a future release.

The 'reader' function, where you can highlight words in another application, and then load plecodict to get a definition, only seems to work with the PPC notes application. When I try it from PIE or POutlook It fails (many other apps as well). This is rather frustrating, as I get sms from Chinese friends, (and chinese telcos) and often want to look things up quickly. Ditto for other web based articles. I can usually copy/paste into a note, and use pleco from there, but the number of steps to do this is a big disincentive.

On a related note, I'd like to use copy/paste directly into Pleco from elsewhere in the system, but Pleco doesn't seem to be fully tied into the system copy/paste buffers. I can't do a copy from another application, then paste the characters directly into Pleco, though the reverse is possible.

Last item - the Pleco text entry dialog doesn't support the PPC convention of just holding the stylus down to get a copy paste menu, going down to the file menu is a bit cumbersome, especially since the correct characters often manage to get un-highlighted as one navigates to the proper menu.

Thanks,

Lee

There's not much you can do to fix these problems in the current version; essentially, when we were designing 1.0 we made the mistake of assuming that most Pocket PC software would handle text in the standard, Microsoft-specified way, but as it turns out a lot of programs don't (a problem made much worse if you're running CE-Star or Monster Chinese or another system-mangling hack of that sort). We're putting a lot more time into tweaking this with 2.0, so hopefully by the time that's out of beta we'll have it able to exchange Chinese text successfully with the vast majority of Pocket PC programs.

The copy/paste menu was just a silly oversight; this was the first Pocket PC product we ever developed, so we weren't quite keyed in to all of the system UI design conventions, another thing we'll hopefully be able to remedy in the next release.

Thanks!

No worries, Pleco still rocks. Now that you mention CE-Star I do seem to remember a time before I installed that where there may have been a bit more compatibility. Can't live without my IME though. Looking forward to the future releases.
