My gf has a T5 and it has been a big pain in the @#%.

Pleco seems to run pretty fine on it, but there are some minor things that doesn't seem to work quite well though. Like I can't seem to highlight words in instant access mode.

I also constantly have problems with PenPower. It simply stops working all the time and then i have to put in the registration code again, before it works again. It seems to have a problem with changing screen format or maybe its the "write on the screen thing", i dont know.

This might not be a problem with the T5's sold in china since PP comes pre-installed on those.

Beside this there have been a lot of other problems with it, but i got it running pretty well now.

Don't really know if I would recommend or not, all i can say is my TE seems seems like a super rock solid machine next to the T5. It's like you never know when its gonna go crazy on you :x

I'm waiting for something better myself.

T5 Troubles

I'm having nothing but problems with Plecodict on my new Tungsten T5. I got the dictionaries installed by creating a /palm/launcher file in the internal memory; however, handwriting only recognizes simplified characters with compatibility mode on, and the system isn't compatible with CJKOS or Penpower. There are too many error to describe. Will there be any fixes out for us T5 users? I imagine they won't be included in the new version out this week. :(

We have made a number of T5-related fixes, but the problems you describe actually don't have anything to do with the T5 - they're related only to the limitations in Chinese encoding systems.

Are you using simplified or traditional CJKOS/PenPower? Go to the Preferences panel, Characters section and make sure that "External text encoding" is set to GB-2312 if you're using simplified or Big5 if you're using traditional characters. Also, are you sure that all of the handwriting recognition data files are in the main internal memory of your T5? They won't work from the flash drive directory that you put the other files in.

Unfortunately, when input field compatibility mode is on it's impossible to enter simplified and traditional characters at the same time, because the input field can only work with one encoding or the other; if it's using GB, there's no way for it to understand traditional characters, and if Big5 there's no way for it to understand simplified ones. The only encoding system that works with both is Unicode, which is what we use ourselves, but neither CJKOS nor PenPower supports it.

If there are any other T5-related problems that aren't covered by this, please let me know.

CJKOS incompatibility

The CJKOS and Plecodict combo on my Zire 72 worked wonderfully, but these programs don't work well together on my T5. This may be because I was using the previous Plecodict release, but now Chinese characters entered using CJKOS are not recognized in Plecodict. Can you fix this to how it was set in the previous release?

I just checked this on a T5 with CJKOS and I'm not seeing any problems - are you certain that you configured the text encoding correctly? (the setting in the Characters section of the PlecoDict preferences should be the same as the setting in CJKOS) Which encoding are you using in CJKOS and PlecoDict?

Also, are you certain that you installed the appropriate text encoding converter file for the encoding you're using? (it would be in the "Text Converters" folder for a manual installation)

And how are you entering characters into CJKOS? Using Pinyin with the on-screen keyboard? (the one that pops up when you tap the 'abc' button?) Also, what version of CJKOS is this?

Using PlecoDict on a T5

Hi, I'm using PlecoDict since last February and it seems to run pretty well from a 512MByte SD Card (Kingmax fast type 10MB/sec).
I figured out one repeatable problem always when I leave the program. If I switch back to the Palm's standard application screen I'm getting frequently a "Fatal Exception"-message and a reboot sequence. Does someone else figured out this problem?
The instant access works well. 'cause I'm not a native English speaker I have to use sometimes another dictionary to find first the correct English word before translating into Chinese. In that case it's pretty convenient to mark the word and to call the red Pleco symbol. Unfortunately the pinyn characters are not presentable in that mode and I get hard to read text :(
Maybe this will be better in the first official release (when will this be?)

regards Ingolf

Have you updated PlecoDict since last February? Your reference to the red command bar icon (now changed to blue) suggests that you're still using the version from February - if you update to Beta 3, that should clear up all of these problems. Make certain when you update that you download the "full version" rather than the "update from Beta 2".

If this fatal-exception-on-program-exit problem still happens even with Beta 3, what type/model of Palm are you running this on? And does the problem persist even when you turn off Instant Access?
