PlecoDict for older Palm OS (under 4.0)

Is there any way to make the PlecoDict work on a Palm OS 3.5 or is there any chance the old Oxford C&E will come back? Ideally, something like PlecoDict Lite.

I know the market may be small, but I have 4 old Palms that would be great starters for students who just want something basic. If it was a PlecoDict lite, then someone could try it out on the old Palm I'll give them for free. "If" they like it (like they won't), they can upgrade to the full version on a new Palm/PPC.

Maybe I'm mistaken but don't the older PalmOS PDAs limited memory make it not possible to run PlecoDict? They also don't support external storage/memory (like SD). I'm referring specifically to the Palm III series as well as the Palm V series.

Well yes, that's the main reason why we don't support OS 3.5 - since the only OS3.5 models that supported memory expansion cards were a couple of very early Sony Clies, it didn't seem worthwhile to support 3.5. (and it would take a considerable amount of work to get it running)

But the Basic version would actually fit into the memory of an 8 MB 3.5 device if you stripped out any other installed software, and we have thought about adding 3.5 support in a bug-fix release. However, since Pleco 2.0 will likely require Palm OS 5 we're not sure if it's worth the effort to add in support for 3.5 now.

There's no chance the old Oxford E&C will come back, unfortunately - the license for the handwriting recognizer we used in that has expired, and because our new recognizer only works with Unicode text encoding (and Oxford E&C uses GB) it would take a great deal of effort to get that embedded into Oxford E&C.
