Post comments, complaints, and bug reports here. Hopefully there won't be too many bugs, but we're prepared to release a version 1.0.1 in January if needed (along with the 1.0.3 update for Palm).

Bug-fix updates are free, as are minor version (.x) updates. Major version (x.) updates are on a case-by-case basis; thus far, in 4+ years of selling Chinese dictionaries we've never charged for a software update, and we're hoping that we won't have to do so in the future either, but there likely will be new features in future updates that do have an extra fee associated with them - for example, stroke order diagrams and (some) audio pronunciation. This will likely work much like the Hanwang recognizer upgrade did for PlecoDict - free for new users, small upgrade fee for previous-version users but the rest of the software will work OK even without the upgrade.

Hi Mike,

I have just bought a PPC (the acer n50 premium) and I am now going to get the plecodict... just wondering if I should wait for the version 2 thats being hinted at or if I got it now and then in a few months v2 was released, would the v2 be at no cost (pending the addition of the things you mention)... cheers

I could be wrong, but I think version 2 is a long way off. You might want to buy PD now and start using it.

Yes, it's a long way off. It's too soon to predict how long exactly, but it's certainly going to be more than "a few months." And our current plan is to make it as close to a free upgrade as we can - there will likely be some new content (like audio and stroke order diagrams) that will prevent us from giving the entire update away for free, but we can do the same thing we did with the new handwriting recognizer in 1.0: give away the basic upgrade for free, but leave some new features disabled (or in some kind of demo mode) untill you pay a nominal upgrade fee. The desktop software will not be part of any free upgrade, but that will cost extra even for new customers. (though we may put out some sort of a "lite" desktop program that's free for everyone)

Mike--I love PD, as you know, so I can't imagine how it could improve. Well, yeah, I can, but...now what was it I was trying to say? Oh, I remember.

I can't wait!

But I will.
