Pleco Installation without HotSync

Hi,

I recently bought a used Palm Zire 71 in order to run PlecoDict.

Unfortunately HotSync does not work for unknown reasons, so I am wondering whether it is possible to use an SD card only to install PlecoDict.

Thanks in Advance

It's not that difficult, you need a SD memory card, card reader and the palm software FileZ or the easier MyInstall (you need to installed in the "/palm/Launcher/" folder of your memory card.

Then you need to follow the manual installation instructions from the Pleco Manual. Just copy the files to be destined for the Palm device on a special folder in the SD card ("/MyInstall/" for being used with MyInstall program) to later copy to the memory of your Palm. The rest of necessary files to be stored in the SD memori card at "/palm/Launcher/" or "/palm/programs/PlecoDict/".

A last thing that can be a problem is if you bought already the PlecoDict and you activaded for a "User ID" and not a "Hardware ID", because to set the user ID, you must to do whe you sync the palm with the PC for first time.

There's one more wrinkle to this in that your Palm needs to have a HotSync Username for it to unlock correctly with the current version of Pleco; there are utilities available that can set that name if it doesn't already have one, though. With 2.0 the software uses the Palm's serial number instead (assuming it has one, otherwise it still uses the username), and can also be set to use your SD card's serial number, so if you can't get it working with 1.0 you should certainly able to do so with 2.0.
