Navigation buttons in reader

In the reader, the two sets of left right arrows used to navigate between next and previous word and to navigate between individual characters doesn’t seem to work as I expected from the old version. If I navigate to a word and the word before that is two characters but I want to just select the second character in that word, I usually press the left arrow (the one with the horiziontal bar, e.g. the arrow set on the left hand side of the screen). Now when I press that, it refuses to go back. I can only use the right hand side arrows to navigate to the last entire word. The only way I can get the previous character is with long hold to open the selection handles. Here is a screenshot of where I can’t go back.

Thanks - we actually had a new 'cycle through characters in the current word' arrow button at one point that seems to have gone missing or not made it into the defaults, I'll have to double-check on why since that seems like a much more elegant solution than going to the next word and tapping on the |<- button.

I second both fixing the problem alanshi noted and/or reinserting the cool cycle through button Mike mentioned

Another thing for me, as a leftie — and I may just be missing it in settings — I can't seem to flip the next-word buttons and |<- buttons. The next word buttons -> are used much more often and it's nice to put them on whatever side your dominant hand/thumb is on. (I know you know this.)

But overall I'm loving the redesign. It's too smart some places: eg, I loaded a webpage in reader and was like, What, no eyeglasses icon for plain text reading. Then days later by chance I clicked the share button and saw it there with additional options. Very cool.

Yeah, we had this sort of scattered collection of left-handed options before and frequently left-handed people told us they actually made things worse, so the plan in 4.0 is basically just to make it easier to reconfigure these toolbars in whatever order and with whatever options you want. (we're just debating exactly where + how to show that; the little option we added for the top bar in 4.0 was just a band-aid)
