Merging Flashcard Lists

I found a possible bug when trying to merge two flashcards list, all of which had some 1000+ entries. It seems that it screws whole flashcard file completely, there are entries missing in lists (showing as blank fields in the Edit Lists section... this applies even for untouched lists, not only those two merged). When I run a new session after that operation, Pleco tells me that such dictionary entry is no longer available every now and then (those cards were created from ABC dictionary entries). Moreover, after I return to the main screen, the search results field seems to be absolutely blank (and no search is possible either) when the ABC is active and when I switch to the user dictionary, it is completely screwed with only some weird characters showing up... This goes back to normal after restarting Pleco, but the corrupted flashcards and user dictionary stays. It is no big deal, I made a backup yesterday (I already suffered a major flashcards breakdown once... 吃一堑,长一智 as they say ), so I only have to run through todays session again, but still... I want to merge those lists to get rid of duplicates as I estimate there might be some 200-300 of them, which is quite a lot... well, I can live with that (I did so till now), it just intrigues me... Is there anybody who had similar problem or is it just my device acting weird?

I also tried to move/copy the cards one by one with similar results...

Sounds like typical symptoms of the still-untraceable Pocket PC Flashcard Corruption Bug; large file operations unfortunately seem to set it off. Which is why we're spending most of our remaining debugging time pre-Beta 1 on Pocket PC, since Palm users, while outnumbering Pocket PC ones by roughly 4-to-1, have far fewer bugs to deal with in the current version and hence slightly less urgent of a need for something better.

Anyway, about the only thing I can suggest for now is that you make do with your present organization for now and wait for 2.0 to recategorize everything. Which would be a good idea even if you weren't having problems, actually, since the addition of sub- and sub-sub-categories and the ability to apply more than one category to a particular card will likely change the way you want to organize them anyway.

Now that sounds like I don't even need to wait those few months for that converter utility, since that recategorization is going to be a hard work with or without it. And my repetitions are still kind of messy anyway after that last breakdown, so it won't hurt that much if I lose those scores and just start over completely, better start with the new system sooner than later... well, we'll see after the 2.0 actually comes out (if it doesn't turn my device into pile of scrap metal that is )

EDIT: w00t, 秀才 finally

Won't be too hard, actually, it's just that if you're planning to reorganize anyway you might as well not take the time to do it twice; the converter will automatically turn both lists and flags into new categories, so then it's just a matter of reorganizing categories to use the new hierarchical system. But yes, if you're not happy with the way your statistics are working now anyway then it probably makes sense to start with a clean slate; just bear in mind that it may not be possible to bring your flashcards from Beta 1 to a later beta (at least not without some serious and unsupported SQLite hacking), so it would probably best not to put any serious time into reorganizing flashcards at least until Beta 2 comes out. (we'll let everyone know once we release a beta with a finalized flashcard format)
