Installing both MingLiu AND SimSun

I'm just wondering if it's possible to install both of those font types on my Pocket PC, provided I have enough space. It would, of course, be sort of handy to have the ability to input and recognize both traditional AND simplified characters with PlecoDict. It also might be a nice to be able to have a toggle switch so that one could look quickly between the two versions of the same character. Maybe this is already possible, but I'm a new user and still trying to learn how to use the software.

There is no problem with installing as many typefaces as you want. Once they're installed, go into PlecoDict's Dict menu, Preferences, then Characters, and choose the face you want to use. This is where you'll change fonts too.

However, if you're doing this just to get both simplified and traditional characters, you don't need two typefaces. SimSun has both. Just choose the encoding from the Dict menu, Switch Character Set. The easiest thing to do, really, would be to go back into Preferences, Toolbar tab and put the Simplified/Traditional button somewhere among the first five tools.

If I didn't understand your question, maybe Mike will step in with a more on-track answer.

Thanks for the reply. I think I've got some homework to do on using the program. I do have another question though. When one is using the character recognition function, does it matter if you write the simplified or traditional version of the character, or what your font setting is set to? For example, if I'm reading traditional Chinese characters and I come across a character I don't recognize, I would try to write the traditional version of the character. Would the simplified version of the character also pop up in that horizontal list of possible matches?

Congrats to sfrrr, and yes, that's quite correct - you can install as many fonts as you want, but SimSun and MingLiU each cover both simplified and traditional characters - MingLiU just happens to draw them in a slightly more "standard" style for traditional-character-using areas (see for example shuo4 "speak, say"). We debated whether to even include MingLiU, but the license that gave us SimSun also gave us the rights to distribute MingLiU at no additional charge so we figured that we might as well offer it at least. (at some point we might automatically switch between them depending on the current character set selection)

And it doesn't matter at all whether you draw the simplified or traditional character, regardless of the font setting - the recognizer will always recognize both types. It generally will only give you the version that you drew, though sometimes the other version is similar enough that it will come up in the list of matches as well.
