Installation time on Palm Tungsten E2 / Palm Treo 680

Hi Everyone,

I am still considering whether to buy the Palm Tungsten E2 / Palm Treo 680 (well my phone probably needs upgrading, so seriously considering this one!).

My question is about the installation time. ie. Once I charge the thing and go through all the usual startup for the device and OS, how long will it likely take to:

a) Complete the Demo, purchase and full installation, including copying the keyfiles, and any other fonts required over?

b) Figure out how to use Plecodict, including flashcards, and handwriting recognition etc?

PC Setup: I have an older Dell Pentium 4 and iRda adapter running Windows 2000 Professional, so not sure if it is enough to run the transferring software (I don't have SP 4.0)

P.S. Really liked the look of Plecodict v2.0 version compared to the older screenshots.

a) should take about an hour or so, the automated installer pretty much takes care of all of the non-keyfile copying for you and installing the keyfile is generally just a double-click to queue it up to install and a single tap on the icon to run it on your Palm.

b) really depends on you - the basic interface seems to come pretty quickly to most people, but the flashcard system in its current form can get kind of confusing so it might take you the better part of a day to get that working in a way you're happy with.

Installing the software over infrared might increase a) to several hours, but since all new Palms come with USB transfer cables you should be able to install the software that way. I don't believe there are any issues with Palm Desktop on the pre-SP4 releases of Win2k, it's been out since before Win2k was even released so they would have had to make it compatible then.
