INPUT BOX

WHEN ENTERING PINYIN FORM THE KEYBOARD, I OFTEN RUN OUT OF SPACE.

ONE DAY, I DON'T KNOW HOW, BUT THE INPUT LENGTH BECAME MUCH LARGER AND I WAS VERY HAPPY. WELL NOW IT IS GONE AGAIN AND TO SAY THE LEAST, I AM NO LONGER HAPPY.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO A"LENGTHEN" THE INPUT BOX?

I POSED THIS QUESTION YESTERDAY, BUT NOW I CAN'T FIND IT, SO IF IT SHOWS UP ANYWHERE, I APPOLOGIZE FOR THE DUPLICATION.

Did the input length actually become larger or were the characters just narrower?

If the characters were narrower, go into the Characters panel in Preferences and make sure the Chinese font is set to "NSimSun" or "ZYSong" - those two fonts have nice narrow English letters which help you squeeze in more syllables.

If the box itself was longer, this might have been because you had fewer buttons in the search toolbar - make sure the Entry List is open (there's an extra toolbar button if it's closed), and go into the Search section of Preferences and make sure that "Enable search button" is un-checked.

Hey Mike,

I have always wished that the input field could hold more characters, pinyin or English. Are you working on improving the amount of characters we can input into the search box for 2.0? Even if the screens on some devices are too small to show the entire length of what is inputted, it seems like having a small scroll arrow could easily solve the problem. ABC itself has plenty of phrases that won't be able to fit into the input field if a person is entering the characters his/herself.

By the way, we have all been waiting very (I repeat, very) patiently. Is there any kind of a small update (no matter how small) that you can give us on the progress of 2.0 to sate our appetites?

THE BOX WAS UNCHECKED. I DON'T KNOW WHERE OR HOW TO FIND THE ENTRY LIST YOU MENTIONED.

FOR YOUR REFERENCE, THE INPUT BOX SIZE I DESCRIBED, WAS SIGNIFICANTLY LARGER, IN LENGTH ONLY, BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO HAVE IT HAPPEN AGAIN. IF YOU CAN FIGURE IT OUT, "PLEASE" LET ME KNOW.

hairyleprechaun - yes, this should get better in 2.0, we're adding a whole bunch of new features to our text input/display controls.

Not a whole lot to say on 2.0, really, we're still chugging away but I still don't have any sort of a firm release date for a beta version. The Palm OS version is maybe 80% feature-complete at this point, the Pocket PC version is lagging behind that a bit since we tend to implement new features on Palm first because they take considerably more effort to get working correctly.

MALAILI - the entry list is just the list of words that normally appears on the right side of the screen; you can toggle it on/off using the 'biao' button (rightmost button in the first row of the toolbar).
