Hi,
I'm studying for a degree in Chinese language and literature. The lessons so far are really good - although my other half helps with the teaching

I've found that putting in the words for each lesson as flash cards makes remembering the characters a *lot* easier. I don't know if there is any copyright issues involved but would this flash cards be of use to others studying the same course?

If so, I'll be happy to make my lists available

There is a copyright notice at the bottom of the home page. I expect they would not be too concerned about copying vocabulary but would be upset about copying lesson material. However, that is only a guess on my part and they may see things differently.

Maybe you could email them, explain the situation and see what they say. I expect only people enrolled for some or all of the courses would be interested and they have access to information anyway. Others would likely find the other word lists more valuable. Maybe they would even cooperate and provide the word lists for all their courses as them being available for Plecodict would be good advertising for the school.

For what it's worth, under my understanding of copyright law, at least in the US a list of words may not qualify as copyrightable anyway - there has to be a significant amount of original work, and one can make the case that if all you're supplying is a list of words without definitions or other original content that this really isn't an original work. The bar is set pretty high for originality - bitmap fonts, for example, cannot be copyrighted.

But it probably would be best to get permission from BLCU, just in case their interpretation of this differs.
