Flashcardlists don?t work after updating userdictionary

Hello!

I?m creating my own userdictionary (with makeplecodict) as we go through the textbook at class. I created a stack of flashcards but after I updated the dictionary (overwriting the old one on the palm with the same name) my old flashcards can?t find the dictionary anymore (even if I can access the dictionary). Don?t tell me this is real!!! But if this is the case, what?s your workaround for that situation? Will I have hundreds of userdictionarys in the end?

Another thing is that I can?t edit userdictionarys (that I have created with makeplecodict) directly on the palm. Just my stupidity?

Your help will be well recived!

Cheers!

I'm afraid that right now we don't offer a way to edit your own user dictionaries on a PC; MakePlecoDict is mainly meant for one-time conversions and not for synchronizing a regularly-updated wordlist with the dictionary. We are planning to release a desktop version of PlecoDict that will allow you to edit dictionaries on a PC (along with letting you edit/manage/print flashcard lists), but that won't be out for quite a while.

Two possible workarounds for this. One of them is to export and then re-import your flashcard list(s) each time you update the user dictionary (export the flashcards before you install the new dictionary, and import them afterwards) - it's a bit of a hassle, but it should get your old words matched up with the new dictionary.

The other workaround is simply to use PlecoDict's built-in user dictionary functionality instead of MakePlecoDict; entries created in this way can be deleted/edited right on your Palm without affecting their associated flashcards. And you can still create new entries on your PC; just put the new entries in a text file (same format as MakePlecoDict except that you'll want to use UTF-8 instead of UTF-16) and use PlecoDict's flashcard import function to import the new entries - in addition to creating a flashcard list based on the new words it'll also add them to the user dictionary. You can use the Import function on your existing word list too, if you'd like to get those entries out of MakePlecoDict and into a format where you can randomly edit/delete them.
