Dictionary: Slow opening time for first definition

On an iPhone Xr, the very first time I open a definition in single dictionary mode (such as PLC or ABC) after launching the app, I have to wait about 1.5 seconds for it to come up. (Because it's just for one dictionary, I assume that no flashcard searching is involved.) After that, definitions open much more quickly, even from other dictionaries.

Could this be because the engine for the dictionary database needs to start up after my first tap? Would it perhaps make sense to pre-load the database engine after the app has started?

There are a couple of caches that have to reopen, yes. But the large flashcard database is also a factor even here, since other parts of the definition screen invoke other dictionaries.
