Confirmation: Palm OS Really Most Sincerely Dead

Per Palm CEO Ed Colligan at http://www.precentral.net/palm-ceo-ed-colligan-talks-pre-investors - there will be no more Palm OS devices released by Palm, from now on they're doing webOS and Windows Mobile only. So it's definitively RIP for Pleco's first platform. Sad to see the clean, elegant design go but not so sad to see the end of backwards and confounding APIs like MemHandleLock and FrmGetObjectPtr.

So for those of us who'd like to upgrade to Pleco 2.x but are switching to another platform (iPhone in my case, Windows Mobile for others, Palm Pre perhaps for those who hate the speed of native binaries), might there be a way to transfer the dictionaries from one copy of Pleco to another? I don't begrudge plecosoft their profit, but must I pay again to relicense the same dictionary databases?

To Windows Mobile yes, iPhone we're not sure about since Apple sometimes rejects applications for distributing parts of themselves in ways they don't like - if they require us to sell all dictionaries / modules / etc through iTunes then there wouldn't really be any mechanism for us to transfer people's licenses over from another platform.

Would it even be possible to support handwriting input on iPhone, or would that require some sort of finger painting input?

Not only possible but done, first thing we implemented in fact - fullscreen, using a finger almost feels comparable to using a stylus.
