Clie jog-dial button, how can it be used?

Hi,

Does anyone know if the jog dial button (the clicking action of the wheel) can be used to select an entry from a search result? Right now it does nothing when in PlecoDict.

Thanks

That's odd... doesn't the currently selected entry update as soon as you turn the scroll wheel? What would the select button change?

As you turn the wheel, the next entry will be hightlighted and so on, but to select an entry (and view the entire definition) you will have to tap it with the stylus. The jogdial can also act as a click button and it would be nice to select the highlighted definition by pressing the jog dial button

Thanks

What model of Clie is it? This definitely isn't normal behavior... honestly we're not putting a whole lot of time into supporting Clies anymore, but if this is a bug we could at least take a look at it.

I am using a clie t415 with the jog dial on the side. I have the dictionary set up to use the full screen on searches, so when I do a search, the results are shown in the full screen. I can use the jog dial to navigate (highlight) each entry. To select the highlighted entry, I need to tap it with the stylus, clicking the jogdial does not select the highligheted entry.

Since we are on the topic, it would also be nice if I can use the "back" button that is next to the jog dial and assign it to do something in the dictionary -like switching dictionaries (but this may be too much to ask).

I find that Pleco is very usable in these low end PDAs and I'm waiting for 2.0 to upgrade to a more powerful PDA

Thanks for any help...

Ah, so it's an OS4 Clie. I believe the Jog Dial API got changed along with some other things when Sony made the switch to OS5, so that may be why this isn't working in PlecoDict (which was primarily built for OS5). Anyway, we'll take a look and see if there's an easy fix.

Some of 2.0 should actually be pretty usable on the old OS4 Clies too - the flashcards will be painfully slow thanks to the new SQLite database engine (though it should actually be faster on OS5 thanks to the use of ARM acceleration), but the basic dictionary engine should be pretty close to the same speed that it is now.
