Hello everybody!

I am starting to have problems using Pleco dict. on my pocket pc. I can use the dictionary, but I can no longer add flashcards. The program freezes when I click on this option. As well, if I want to start a new flashcard session, I get this message: "Sorry, the dictionary associated with this entry no longer appears to be available. (you may also see this error message after you upgrade to a new version of a dictionary)". The memory as well as everything else on the pocket pc seem to be fine. I didn't do anything special. I currently have 3712 flashcards, and I do not want to lose them. Any idea of what is the problem?

Thank you very much!

Try soft resetting your Pocket PC by using the reset switch in the back - in most cases that will clear up this sort of problem.

Hmm... did you move your flashcard data file somewhere other than its original location? Are some flashcards still visible, or do they all give you that error message? Have you installed any additional dictionaries besides the default ABC/NWP/Oxford ones?

No to all these questions... :( I didn't install anything else. I have a Spanish-English dictionary on the pocket pc, but it should not be interfering and I installed it a long time ago. I added a few entries in the pleco dictionary that appear in the user part of the dictionary, but this has not caused any problem before. I haven't done anything special in the last few days, just looking for words in the pleco dictionary and creating new flashcards. Is there a limit in the amount of flashcards that we can have? Any other idea? Thanks.

Sorry, I should have been more specific with my second question: are the flashcard lists still visible? Are their names still correct? If you go to the Manage Lists screen, are there still a bunch of "INVALID" entries in each list or are the lists simply blank? If you go to the list's properties, does each list have (approximately) the right number of cards? I'm trying to figure out whether the problem here is something wrong with your PlecoDict setup in general or with your flashcard data file in particular.

Ok. The problem seems to be solved now. I could see all my lists before in the "Manage Lists" section and all the characters in the "Edit Lists" section. The problem was when I started a session or when I was trying to add a new flashcard. When I add flashcards, they always go to the default folder. When I start a session, it also starts with the characters in the default folder. I removed the default folder from the lists for the flashcard session, and it worked. So I deleted this folder and created a new one, and now everything works as before. I haven't lost any flashcards. It seems that the "default" folder was corrupted. I do not know how this happened, but everything works well now. :D Thanks a lot for your help!

Glad to hear it! It certainly could be some sort of corruption with the default list... Still, to protect against any other corruption it would probably be a good idea to make regular backups of your flashcards. Backing up the flashcard database file itself is very easy, just connect your Pocket PC to your computer, open up My Computer and Mobile Device, and copy the "PlecoDict Flashcards" and "PlecoDict User DB C-E" files to a safe location on your computer's hard drive. For an extra layer of protection you can also try exporting your flashcards to a text file - go to the Export screen in Manage Flashcards, select all of your current flashcard lists, select UTF-8 encoding and check the "Include user entry text" box, and dump everything to a text file. That should give you a completely corruption-proof backup copy.
