Bug when importing/exporting flashcards?

Yesterday when exporting and importing flashcards I stumbled on some unexpected behaviour. I exported to MemoPad using GB-2312 and imported using the same. When importing words which have several different ways of being written, for example "fan3fu4" (反复/覆), xiang3xiang4 (想像/象), etc. it seems to not recognise the word and instead automatically create a user-defined entry with no definition (and containing both possible characters).

The same happened for a few other characters with alternate forms, like fu2 (拂), where it got it mixed up with bi4 (弼).

It's rather easy to fix by just removing all the user-dict entries and then re-inputting the words that become INVALID, but still I guess some sort of a permanent fix would be nice, if it's possible. :)

Hmm... what does the Memo Pad output look like? Are the slashes and alternate characters included in that? If so, removing them should fix this - I admit it's not an ideal solution but it's a lot less trouble than remaking all of those entries.

It should be possible to fix this in a bug-fix update by stripping those alternate characters out of exported text, but truly lossless export/reimport won't happen until 2.0.

Yes, the slashes and alternate characters are included. All except for 拂, but I guess it's a bit "special", since it only has an alternate character in another pronounciation. Shouldn't be too many of those finding their way into my flashcard lists :)

I mostly just wanted to report it so that you guys knew, it's certainly not a big problem. :)

Strange that it would happen with 拂 - that suggests that the problem is happening in the dictionary search part of the import (where it matches the imported characters with dictionary entries) rather than the part where it reads in characters from the text or Memo file (where it's supposed to strip out those slashes). Anyway, thanks for the bug report.

I noticed something today when exporting my flashcards to my SD memory card and using Microsoft Word XP to import it (and make modifications on it).

It seems that either when PlecoDict exports the flashcards or when Microsoft Word XP imports the flashcards, one (or both) of the programs is inserting blank spaces between the tabs used to separate the different fields.

I'm sure when I imported the data for my flashcards, the format was as follows:

chinesecharacter<tab>pinyin<tab>definition

However when I exported my flashcards and used Microsoft Word XP to import it, I would get results like:

chinesecharacter <tab>pinyin <tab>definition

The spaces seem to be random. Sometimes there is 1 space and other times, it is 2 or 3 spaces between the fields.

I've basically gone into Microsoft Word XP and started to remove these blank spaces from the exported flashcard text file. Would these spaces cause any problems/issues if I were to import them back into PlecoDict?

Any ideas on why the spaces are there?

It's probably happening on our end - the exporter might not be stripping the spaces out of the text output from the dictionary when it adds in the tabs. Should be easy to fix in the next bug-fix update (whenever that is).
