Hi,
I would like to buy a graphic product - ie. text based and NOT animated which shows the stroke order of about 1000 common chinese characters. Everywhere I look on the internet there are animated products. I need it for a book, so it must be text based .... can anyone help me on this?

I think you're out of luck, I'm afraid. You may be able to find somewhere that produces images, but as for something purely text-based, I'd be extremely surprised if all the strokes you need have been encoded...

Worst comes to worst, you could just find someone to write a program to draw each stroke as a seperate image, rather than animating them. That may be your best option.

There are a couple of books out there that teach the most commonly used Chinese characters as a teaching method. You can compile the stroke orders your looking for from one of those books. I recommend "Rapid Literacy in Chinese" by Zhang Pengpeng. It teaches the 750 most commonly used characters and has stroker order for each, but not in one place, you'd have to glean it from each lesson. It's a short book though.

The rad part of his methodology is that he has 25 sentences that use all 750 of those characters. You learn those sentences, then you know the 750 most common characters. Photocopy it, put it on your bathroom wall and in your bag, read those 25 sentences every morning, copy them down and after a while you'll know the most important characters and have one easy way to test and review them. I recommend it.
