Yes, try it or RTFM :):

"As of Pleco 3.0, we’ve added experimental support for recognizing PDF files as OCR images, useful when working with PDF files that can’t be processed by our regular document reader PDF module. When opening a PDF file you’ll see two additional buttons on the right side of the top toolbar to let you jump to the next / previous PDF page."

The "image file" option for still ocr is not the most intuitive.

I guess it'd be nice if document reader had some options or hints; opening a pdf in pleco goes straight to the document reader with little to no options.

I agree, this requires a bit of technical background knowledge. Maybe one could just name it "File Manager" instead of "Image File". Then one would have the choice between "Take Picture", "Photo Library", and "File Manager".

Convergence between reading and OCRing of PDFs is on our to-do list - waiting on an overhaul of OCR. The goal is that you'll eventually have a single UI and can easily flip back and forth between OCR and text extraction (and have it happen automatically on document open).

For labeling, maybe just "Image / PDF file"?

The problem with having just a single place to open files is that people won't necessarily understand how that ties to OCR or the document reader - high priority for us is making sure that after somebody buys add-on X they can immediately see where that add-on inserted itself into our user interface.
