A used iPhone for Pleco: iPhone 5S or anything newer?

Pleco is the main app I use on my iPhone, so I hope I can get some advice here on buying a new(er) model.

I tend to buy cheap, used iPhones, and I've been using an iPhone 4 for the last 3 years. Now it's too old, but it looks like I could make do with an iPhone 5S, as it supports the newest iOS and is the lowest 64-bit model, so it even has chances of getting an iOS 11 update.

Is there a reason I should think about something newer? Is iOS 10 usable on iPhone 5S, or should I consider sticking to iOS 9 (and mind that Pleco may start requiring iOS 10 at some point)? Is the newest version of Pleco reasonably fast on iPhone 5S? Anything else I should take into account?

5s is the baseline we're designing 4.0 around, so it should be fine assuming Apple doesn't drop support for it in iOS 11. Main problem is that apps increasingly focus on 6/6+ screens, so it may have a very cramped UI for some.
