With regard to my status in PlecoForums, Wenlin has 秀才 as the following.

秀才 xiùcai n. 〈hist.〉 ①a scholar who passed the imperial examination at the county level ②scholar; skillful writer ③fine talent

In Japanese dictionary on my friends Sharp Papyrus it comes up as "scholar"

But on the widely used Japanese to English dictionary: Personal Dictionary for Windows - Eijro81 and the first one I looked on.

The defition is simply "smart ass"

Hi there,

my favorite weirdass translation of all time is the translation for 原来如此 on a lot of online Chinese dictionaries, as well as some of the older printed dictionaries -- I have absolutely no idea where this one originated, although it might have been an earlier edition of a Cambridge/Oxford C-E dictionary:

原来如此 actually means something like "Oh so that's it..." or "I see...", but for some reason a lot of dictionaries translate it as "That accounts for the milk in the coconut!" which is not wrong per se, but it sounds hilarious in English :D :lol:
