兩岸常用詞典 (LACD) User Dictionary

Hi all,

I'm posting this to share an early version of a Pleco user dictionary conversion of LACD (兩岸詞典), based on the source data (https://github.com/g0v/moedict-data-csld/blob/master/兩岸詞典.csv, downloaded on 2014-07-22 - I notice there is now a newer version) available from here: https://github.com/g0v/moedict-data-csld

As with all user dictionaries, you need to have the Flashcard System add-on installed.

I have tried to be consistent in the formatting where possible with other Pleco dictionaries and user dictionaries (such as MoEDict: http://www.plecoforums.com/threads/the-moe-dictionary-is-now-open-source.3606/).

Unfortunately I haven't had a lot of time to test it myself so there could very well be a better way of presenting some of the available information (c.f. notes for converting and source data above).

I'm always open to any feedback or suggestions to improve it, but due to a (more than, at times) full-time job I'm limited to weekends when I'm likely to be able to make any changes.
I don't claim any ownership on the data or even the Pleco conversion so I'm more than happy for others to take it on if they like.

Finally, thank you to goldyn chyld for informing me that this data was available, a lot of patience and some preliminary testing - much appreciated.

I haven't had a chance to download this dictionary, but I wanted to day thanks!

VERY useful addition. None of my Chinese teachers have been very helpful when it came to the linguistic differences across the strait. Thanks a lot!

I've been using it for a while now and it is awesome. When I saw the name I thought it was about the linguistic differences between Taiwan and China (like jlnr), but it isn't. You can find the definition of 70.000+ words, independently of where they are used the most.

Have you heard any more on whether you can make this (LACD) and other similar dictionaries (at same source location) official Pleco releases?

I'm looking at updating the Pleco conversion in this thread with the latest source data (Jan 15, 2015 commit of 20150113 upstream data) from that location but noticed my notes are a bit of a mess (and incomplete) so wanted to check before spending the time to clean them up (and complete them).

They're still licensed as non-commercial for now, unfortunately, so we can't distribute them ourselves. I've half considered setting up a tiny nonprofit organization with its sole mission to distribute MoE dictionaries in Pleco format, but it'd be a pretty transparent ruse and wouldn't likely hold up in court.

Personally I think they ought to warmly welcome commercial uses, even much more blatant ones than ours would be (actually charging money for the dictionaries, say) - yes, somebody else is making money, but Taiwanese Mandarin is rapidly vanishing from international Chinese education and they should be doing absolutely everything they can to get people to spend time on products that further its spread. But it seems like the bureaucrats at the MoE aren't interested in budging on that point at the moment.

(there's a pretty good detailed argument against NC licenses here, but I suspect their aversion to commercial use is more emotional than rational)
