Web reader

So, we've been talking so much about the Lyrics Reader in another thread (and its unpopularity) that I was curious to give a try to the Web Reader, which I haven't tried in years, and see if I was missing anything.

Kind of as I suspected, I immediately ran into an issue that makes it kind of unusable (for me, anyway). I just went to my main Weibo page and started reading some posts. Clicking on some unfamiliar phrases to get a definition works great.

But what didn't work great is trying to click on a link that is made up of Chinese characters. The dictionary definition pops up when I'm trying to click a link.

It seems for this to be usable as a web browser there would been to be a button that turns off the pop up dictionary temporarily to make links work.

Otherwise I guess the idea is I'm supposed to get the exact web address using Safari and put that into the browser. The problem with that is that these days so many webpages have settings that rearrange the content. For instance on Weibo I need to click a drop-down to filter out which group I'm reading, "朋友圈" or what have you. Pleco thinks I'm wondering what 朋友圈 means, when I'm actually trying to get the drop down to read other people.

No big deal, just mentioning it. Overall, for me, it's still easier to copy and use the clipboard reader.

But a button to toggle dictionary pop-up/click on links would be useful, I think.

We actually do have code to detect / avoid looking up characters on links - I just checked this on Weibo and it seems to work correctly. Could you give me the specific URL of a page that exhibits this behavior?

Here's a screenshot. See where it says "朋友圈"? It's a drop down menu to allow you to see which group of posts you are seeing. I have tried clicking on it every which way; Every time I get the dictionary. You are right that the links marked "消息", "发现" and “我” work fine -- they are links, not menus.

As I said, not a big deal. Just pointing it out.

The web reader seems to work great for its more intended purpose of reading an article or something you already have a link to

OK, I'm seeing the problem with the button to launch the menu but not with the menu itself once it's opened - we'll see if we can improve this a bit in 3.2.2, thanks.

Also, if you tap on the 'eyeglasses' icon in the bottom toolbar you can get something like clipboard reader functionality without actually having to select any text. (extracts all the content of the page and dumps it to a text document)
